भगवान कृष्ण का जन्म भाद्र मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि को हुआ था, इसलिए उनके जन्मदिवस को कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी के रूप में मनाते हैं। माना जाता है कि जन्माष्टमी के दिन व्रत रखने से संतान प्राप्ति की मनोकामना पूरी होती है और संतान को दीर्घायु की भी प्राप्ति होती है।
