Early Life and Education:

Atishi’s parents, Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi, both worked as teachers at Delhi University. She completed her schooling at Springdales School in New Delhi and graduated with a First Class First in History from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi, in 2001. She then attended Oxford University, where she earned her first master’s degree in 2003 on a Chevening scholarship. In 2005, she earned her second master’s degree in Educational Research as a Rhodes Scholar.

Political Career:

Atishi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in January 2013, playing a key role in policy-making and activism. She gained prominence during the Anti-Corruption Movement and participated in events like the Jal Satyagraha in Madhya Pradesh. In 2019, she contested the Lok Sabha elections but lost to Gautam Gambhir from the BJP. However, she won the Kalkaji Assembly constituency in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, defeating her opponent by over 11,000 votes. Here are some key achievements of her career-

Education Reforms: Atishi is most popularly known for her approach to education change in Delhi’s public school system. She introduced the “Mission Buniyaad” whose main goal is the enhancement of learning literacy and numerical competencies of students. She also brought new curriculums such as the ‘Happiness Curriculum’ and the ‘Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum’; which are meant to improve the students’ welfare and develop their abilities.

Increased Budget Allocation: During her tenure, there was the detection of a substantial rise in expenditure on education that helped the government schools in Delhi to improve their infrastructure and facilities.
