Vasileios TorosidisVasileios Torosidis — Versatile full-back Vasileios Torosidis had his first professional outing as a 17-year-old with hometown club Skoda. His composed displays over the next four years had Greece’s biggest clubs trailing his signature.

In 2007 he made the move to Olympiakos, where he has occupied virtually every position apart from goalkeeper, although he is best known for his qualities as a skilled but combative and powerful defender.

His ability at nullifying the threat posed by opposing forwards has made him a highly valued member of both the Olympiakos and Greece line-ups, and has also had some of Europe’s leading sides enquiring after his services, among them Juventus, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.

Torosidis has enjoyed great success with the Piraeus giants, winning three league titles, two Greek Cups and two Greek Super Cups in his three years with the club.

His maiden international cap came in the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying match against Turkey, a game in which he was asked to play at left-back despite normally occupying a right-sided position for his club.

Performing with some style in an unfamiliar role, Torosidis was rewarded with a place in Otto Rehhagel’s squad for the finals in Austria and Switzerland.

His scored his first goal for his country in the opening game of Greece’s South Africa 2010 qualifying campaign, a 3-0 win over Luxembourg in September 2008.
