Making Arrows

Making ArrowsMaking Arrows – The bow you have just made is not much use without the arrows, so here is a description of the manner in which these useful weapons are constructed. Very good arrows can be made from ash or pine wood and should be about 3/8 in. in diameter and measure some 2 ft. in length.

You can either have a handsome steel tip put on these or fashion a point for yourself merely by a little gentle whittling with your penknife.

The steel tips are not too difficult to make and they should be filed out similar to the illustration and drilled at the end to fit on to the arrow wood.

You will certainly need three feathers to make your arrow fly quite true. These can be cut as shown in the drawing and tied to the end of the arrow with fine twine and varnished.
