The Turtle Doves

Turtle DovesTwo turtle doves were fighting
Which is practically unknown,
But they had found a wriggly worm
That each wanted for his own.
They argued who had found it
And they squabbled all the day,
Not noticing that meanwhile,
The worm had slipped away.
At last they said they’d share it,
But then it was too late-
They realized the juicy worm
Had settled its own fate.
The turtle doves, crestfallen,
Knew their fight had been in vain,
And decided there and then
That they would never fight again.
