Dry SkinAyurveda Skin — Ayurveda recommend different treatment & life style for each person, in which foods and lifestyle follow in order to be completely healthy. This is due to constitutional body doshas which is vary from person to person.

Caring for skin type according to doshas:

Besides these general health & dietary care the key to Outer Beauty is to understand the difference in skin types according to doshas so the one can get the maximum benefit from your individualized skin care regimen. There are main three different skin types based on three main body energy principles (doshas- vata, pitta, kapha) and in combination these three doshas – present in everyone, but to different degrees in different age groups.

Vata Skin:

Vata is combination of the space and air element. Vata skin type is dry, thin, fine pored, delicate and cool to the touch. When vata is balance, it glows with a delicate lightness and refinement that is elegant and attractive. When vata is imbalanced, it will be prone to excessive dryness and may even be rough and flaky.

Problems you may face: Mainly affected with early aging tend to develop wrinkles, dryness and thinness, look dull and grayish, even in young people. In addition, your skin may have a tendency for disorders such as dry eczema and skin fungus.

Care for you: Vata type skin does not contain much moisture, prevention from dryness with natural herbs is the major consideration. Eat ghee and olive oil is best, salty and sweet tastes-fruits, not refined sugar as they imbalance vata. Drink 6-8 glasses of warm water not cold. Going to bed early is soothing to vata. Avoid dry meal. Avoid alcohol-based cleansers and Ayurvedic oil massage (abhyanga) is the best for vata skin type in the morning before shower.

Pitta Skin:

Pitta is combination of fire+water. Pitta skin type is fair, soft, warm and of medium thickness. When pitta is balanced skin has a beautiful, slightly rosy or golden glow, hairs typically are fine and straight, red, sandy or blonde in color. Complexion is pink or reddish.

Problems you may face: Pitta skin types have tendency to develop rashes, acne, liver spots or pigmentation disorders. Because of higher proportion of the fire element in this type of constitution, pitta skin type people are not able to tolerate heat or sun very well.

Care for you: Avoid sun exposure, heating therapies like facial or whole body steams. In diet avoid hot, spicy foods and favor astringent, bitter and sweet foods which balance pitta. Take Sweet juicy fruits especially melons. Drink plenty of water it helps to wash out impurities from sensitive pitta skin. Avoid usage of synthetic chemicals, to which prone to react. Strictly use only 100% natural ingredient cosmetics.

Kapha Skin:

Kapha dosha is the mixture earth and water. kapha skin is thick, oily, soft and cool to the touch. Kapha complexion is a glowing whitish color and hairs are thick, wavy, oily and dark. Kapha skin types more prone to develop wrinkles much later in life as compare to vata & pitta.

Problems you may face: if doshas are imbalanced, then it can enlarged pores, excessively oil secretion, moist types of eczema, blackheads, acne or pimples, and water retention. Kapha skin is more prone to fungal infections.

Care for you: Kapha skin type people careful when using any kind of creams. Avoid heavy, hard to digest foods like fried foods, fatty meats, cheeses and rich desserts. Eat light, easy to digest, astringent, bitter and pungent foods as helps to balance kapha. Olive oil is the best cooking oil and a little ginger and lime juice. A warm baths open the skin pores. Avoid getting constipated and every day exercise help to increase circulation and help purify the skin during sweating process.

Prevention:

  • Dry your skin carefully after bathing.
  • Wear loose fitting clothes and underwear.
  • Avoid sharing towels, hair brushes, and combs, which could contain skin fragments that harbour fungal colonies.
  • Change socks or tights daily.
  • For athlete’s foot, alternate shoes every two or three days so that they have time to dry out.
  • Choose fabrics that allow the skin to “breathe” – natural fibres such as cotton are better than nylon or polyester for underwear.
  • If you have diabetes you need to keep good control of your blood sugar.
