Toothpaste

Just a dab of toothpaste can help relieve itching of bites. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and ingredients like baking soda and menthol help to relieve the irritation.

Vinegar

This home remedy prevent itching due to acids. Add two or three cups of vinegar in a warm bath or a few drops on a cotton swab. Apple cider vinegar may be the most effective because it has slightly less acid.

Honey

Honey has a wide range of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory action, and antibacterial properties. Take a small amount of honey and apply directly to the bite.

Tea Bags

Tea bags contain good amounts of tannins. Tannins have a strong effect, draws excessive fluid from the swelling.

Baking Soda

Baking soda contain alkaline component that neutralize ph-balance of the skin. Applying baking soda to the bite helps to reduce inflammation and itching.

Basil

The aromatic leaves of basil contain camphor and thymol, two components that reduce itching. You can apply the basil leaves directly to bite, or you can crush the basil and apply on swelling.

Lemon and Lime

Both citrus fruits have antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Their juice or their peel kills all types of bacteria. The only disadvantage is that these cannot be used in the sun, it would be better to use them only at home.

Peppermint

Little peppermint toothpaste also helps with mosquito bites. Peppermint cools the skin and cooling sensations reach the brain faster than sensations of itching. The brain can process only one sensation and thus stops itch. Instead of toothpaste you can use peppermint essential oil or peppermint cream.

Banana Peel

Some people say that the effectiveness of banana peel is amazing and can help you, but will not harm you if you try. The sugar from the peel of the banana softens and draws liquid from the sting, and thus relieves itching.

Milk and Water

Do this mixture by soaking equal amounts of milk and water into a towel and apply on the swelling. This is a very effective remedy and helps in relieves swelling, itching and inflammation. This is also a good way to relieve burns from the sun.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera provides great protection and really relieves swelling and itching caused by mosquito bites. Just apply aloe vera to the bite.

In a spray bottle mix – 2 cups of water, 10 drops lavender essential oil, 20 drops of citronella essential oil, 5 drops of geranium essential oil, Shake well and spray around you and on yourself.
