Largest dance fitness class: Philippines breaks Guinness World Records record

Balanga City, Philippines – March 20, 2016 – A total of 16,218 participants joined a dance fitness class in a bid to attain a smoking-free city and, at the same time, surpass the latest record of the Guinness World Records.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest dance fitness class involved 6,630 participants and was achieved at an event organised by the Gobierno Delegacional de Iztapalapa (Mexico), at the Plaza de la Constitución, Mexico City, Mexico, on 25 March 2012.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest pilates demonstration/class was achieved by 3,486 participants in an event organized by Denizli Municipality (Turkey) in Denizli, Turkey, on 2 June 2013.

The participants in the record-breaking dance fitness class fully occupied the four-lane Enrique Garcia Sr. Avenue (EGSA), with a length of 2.2 kilometers.

Teachers, students from public schools, parents, local government employees, and representatives from the group Tobacco Free Generation International (TFG) and the World Health Organization (WHO) participated in the activity.

Also joining the early morning street dance exercise session were Governor Abet Garcia, Mayor Joet Garcia of this city, former Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) head Joel Villanueva; Mayor Gila Garcia of Dinalupihan; and heads of government agencies.

Organized by Balanga City government, which has a very strong anti-smoking campaign and healthy lifestyle advocacy, the “world’s largest fitness class” became the launching pad for the TFG movement in Bataan.
