Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline WozniackiCaroline Wozniacki was born on July 11, 1990 in Odense, Denmark. She is a professional tennis player. She is a nineteen years old tennis player who turned professional in 2005. She has Polish origins because her parents were born there. As a junior player she won in 2005 the Orange Bowl tennis championship and lost the final at Australian Open in 2006 to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

As of June 21, 2010 Wozniacki is ranked World No. 4. She has won seven WTA Tour events and was the runner up at the 2009 US Open.

After becoming professional she first participated at Cincinnati’s Western and Southern Financial Group Women’s Open, but was defeated by Patty Schnyder, who would finally win the title.

At the tournament in Memphis in 2006 she managed to win against players like Kristina Brandi and Ashley Harkleroad and reach the quarter-finals. It was the first time when she had such a
performance. She then lost to Sofia Arvidsson.

She won the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament and then she received a wildcard for Wimbledon but didn’t qualify. At the Nordea Nordic Light Open in Stockholm in August 2006 she reached the quarter-finals again.

The first title came at Istanbul and it is an ITF single title. Besides this one she has also won two ITF single tournaments, one at Ortisei where beat in the final Alberta Brianti and the second at Las Vegas after she beat Akiko Morigami in the final.

In 2007 she participated at the French Open but was eliminated in the first round and then at Wimbledon where reached the second round. In the same year she played at Indian Wells, but in the second round Martina Hingis beat her with 6-1, 6-3.

At the 2010 Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open, where she reached the final the year before, she lost in the second round 6-2, 6-3 to Alyona Bondarenko.

Wozniacki’s next tournament was the Polsat Warsaw Open. Seeded number 1, she reached the quarter-finals where she retired due to the injured ankle against Zheng Jie.

After mixed results in the clay court season, Wozniacki is seeded 3rd at the French Open, behind the Williams sisters. In the first three rounds she defeated Alla Kudryavtseva, Tathiana Garbin and Alexandra Dulgheru, all in straight sets. In the fourth round it took three sets and three hours to defeat Flavia Pennetta. In the quarter finals she lost against another Italian, and the eventual champion, Francesca Schiavone. In doubles Wozniacki partnered with Daniela Hantuchova. They won their first round match against the Germans Tatjana Malek and Andrea Petkovic. In the second round they should have played the Williams sisters but withdrew due to a right shoulder injury to Hantuchova.

As the defending champion, Wozniacki lost early at the 2010 AEGON International.

Wozniacki is seeded 3rd at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships. She defeated Tathiana Garbin and Chang Kai-chen to set up a third round match with 29th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
