Fungal Infection (Dadru) — Responsible Dosha: Pitta and Kapha
Skin is a sense organ. Touch, pain, temperature, pressure are subjects for skin. It gives external covering to the whole body. Ayurveda states that the skin has seven layers. These seven layers get their nutrition from muscles. According to Ayurveda skin is a secondary tissue product of the blood, so it is said to be a mirror that reflects the qualities of the blood and the body’s plasma tissue. Hence it is a common saying that ‘glowing skin is the result of good quality plasma and blood. Skin is mostly affected by fungus as it is external covering of body. In Ayurveda skin fungal infection known as ‘Dadru‘.
Causes of Fungal Infection (Dadru)
According to Ayurveda vitiation in three doshas, mainly aggravation of Pitta and Kapha causes fungal skin disorder. A number of things which my increase the risk of from fungal infections, these includes – if you have recently taken a course of antibiotics, oral steroids, diabetes, obese, history of fungal infections weak immune system, moist skin encourages fungal infections. Damage to the skin surface, such as a cut or graze, can also encourage fungi to grow. Also there are chances catch fungal infections from animals such as cats or dogs.
Symptoms of Fungal Infection (Dadru)
The fungus may infect just one area of the body, or may be several areas. Fungi live on all surfaces of our bodies under certain conditions like in warm and moist areas. The symptoms and appearance depends on the fungus causing it and part affected. Fungal infections of the scalp or beard can lead to hair loss. They can cause rashes with a variety of different appearances.
- Circular lesion, itchy, scaly & clear in centre and may occur on any exposed area
- Ringworm sometimes infects the inner & upper part of thigh
- Dryness, rigidity & discoloration of nails
- Baldness, itching & scaling in scalp; hair becomes dry & brittle

Fungal Infection (Dadru) Treatment
Diet Management
Proper intake of nutrients and adequate diet is most important for healthy skin. Without Healthy diet skin can shrivel up like a plant without water after some time. To keep skin healthy glowing and younger diet management is also important as well as treatment. Always eat fresh, Leafy green vegetables contain vitamins, minerals and are high in antioxidant properties. Sweet juicy fruits like grapes, melons, pears, plums and stewed apples at breakfast are excellent for the skin in almost everyone. Avoid junk, spicy, oily, packaged, canned, frozen, processed foods. These foods have little nutritional value and also poorly digested by our stomach which creates impurities that localize in the skin.
