Splenomegaly (Ayurvedic Name – Pleehodar) — Splenomegaly is the state in which spleen is enlarged. Enlargement of spleen is generally caused by involvement of lympho-proliferative disease, by the resumption of extramedullary haemopoiesis in myeloproliferative disease or by enhanced reticuloendothelial activity in autoimmune haemolysis.
In Ayurveda enlargement of spleen is known as “pleehodar”. Pleehodar is also caused by combination of impure blood with “kapha” according to ayurveda .It is divided into three parts as vitiation of three doshas in a healthy human body. These are:
- Vataj: -caused by increase Vat (Air) dosha in body.
- Pittaj: -caused by increase Pitt (Fire) dosha in body.
- Kaphaj: -caused by increase Kapha (Phlegm) in body.
Symptoms
Pain in abdomen in left region, as well as fever, anaemia, general weakness, nausea, vomiting etc.

- Aloe Vera (Ghrit Kumari) juice
- Kutki (Picrorhiza) powder with honey
- One or two tablespoons of powder of Turpeth (Nisoth) administered with hot water twice a day
- Decoction of Trailing Eclipta (Bhangra) – one tablespoon twice a day
