Ma Jun

Ma JunMa Jun is a Chinese Name. Ma is the Family Name of this Chinese environmentalist, non-fiction writer, environmental consultant, and journalist. He was born in 1968. In 1993, the Ma Jun, graduated from the Institute of International Relations, to a newspaper as a reporter. He became known as an investigative journalist while working with South China Morning Post(1993 – 2000). His articles on the Environmental Subjects made him the Chief Representative of SCMP.com in Beijing.

He wrote China’s first major book in 1999 that covered the sensitive subject of the Nation’s Environmental Crisis – “China’s Water Crisis”. With the rapid industrial expansion of the world’s most populous nation, China, has to decide how to use its natural resources and control its pollution, which will affect environmental health around the world. Water pollution is the most serious environmental issue that China is facing and it has a huge impact on people’s health and economic development. His Book has been compared to Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring.

A journalist turned environmental advocate, Ma has emerged as a powerful voice in China, raising the alarm about the potentially catastrophic consequences of heedless, unsustainable growth. He also serves as environmental consultant for the Sinosphere Corporation. He is also the Director of IPE Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs. Which developed the China Water Pollution Map, that provides the full information of water pollution in China.

He was named as one of the 100 most influential persons in the world by Time magazine in May 2006, in an article written by Hollywood film star Ed Norton. in 2009 Ma Jun, led the development of public environmental research center of “China Water Pollution Map and green choice” program, won the third SEE? TNC second-class eco-award, Award, by the Alxa SEE Ecological Association and the Nature Conservancy (TNC).
