Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfeTom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe — Early Life of Thomas “Tom” Anderson and Chris DeWolfe

Thomas “Tom” Anderson (born November 8, 1970) is an American entrepreneur. He co-founded the social networking website MySpace in 2003 with Chris DeWolfe. Anderson was previously president of MySpace, and is now a strategic adviser for the company. Because newly created MySpace accounts previously included Tom as a default “friend,” he has become known as the default picture of MySpace. As of February 2010, Tom’s profile has over 12 million friends. In 2003, working for eUniverse under the purview of Brad Greenspan, he and a few other eUniverse employees set up the first pages of MySpace, and the site grew from there. It is currently one of the most popular social networking websites in the United States (listing consistently among the top ten on Alexa Top 500 Global Sites, after its main competitor, Facebook).

Chris DeWolfe (born 1966) is one of the creators of MySpace (along with Tom Anderson). He is the former CEO of MySpace. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1988, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and the University of Southern California in 1997. He has the sixth account ever made on the website.

On April 22, 2009, News Corp. announced DeWolfe would step down as CEO and will be a strategic adviser to MySpace and serve on the board of MySpace China. The former Facebook executive Owen Van Natta replaced him.

Chris Dewolfe has been profiled in many major publications such as Fortune and BusinessWeek.

MySpace.com

Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson created something remarkable in MySpace.com. They launched their social-networking site in 2003, and by the middle of 2004, they had begun using it for their band, the Raveonettes.

It is little wonder that MySpace is now the seventh most popular website in the world, according to Web-traffic tracker Alexa.com, with more than 70 million registered accounts. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. realized its potential and last year paid $580 million to buy MySpace and its parent company.

MySpace is a social networking website. Its headquarters are in Beverly Hills, California where it shares an office building with its immediate owner, News Corp. Digital Media, owned by News Corporation. MySpace became the most popular social networking site in the United States in June 2006. According to comScore, MySpace was overtaken internationally by its main competitor, Facebook, in April 2008, based on monthly unique visitors. MySpace employs 1,000 employees, after laying off 30% of its workforce in June 2009; the company does not disclose revenues or profits separately from News Corporation. The 100 millionth account was created on August 9, 2006, in the Netherlands.

After MySpace; Tom Anderson

He briefly appeared in the 2009 American drama-comedy Funny People starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann.

American Idol Finalist, Scott MacIntyre, wrote a song called “I’ll Take Tom” on his debut album “Heartstrings”. The song is written about a MySpace relationship.
