Ganpati Visarjan – Hindu Culture & Tradition

Amidst chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya, people across India will bid adieu to Lord Ganesh idols. The festival is celebrated with grand fanfare in Mumbai, where security has been beefed up for immersion of more than 90,000 idols at 84 different spots.

The 10-day festival will culminate with a number of street processions in Mumbai.

Around 25,000 policemen have been deployed across the Maharashtra capital on the occasion.

Two companies of the Rapid Action Force, one company of the Border Security Force and four companies of the State Reserve Police Force are being deployed across the city on the immersion day.

More than 350 lifeguards have been deployed at major immersion spots. As many as 37 watch towers have been erected at the major immersion spots with the main control room at Girgaum Chowpatty in south Mumbai, which is also a major immersion spot.

Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and prosperity, arrived in the homes of his devotees amid traditional fervour, pomp and gaiety.
