Navratri Mantra: Durga Chalisa, Hymns, Prayers

According to legends, Goddess Durga is the embodiment of power and strength, created with an amalgamation of supreme powers of Gods to kill Mahishasura, the immensely powerful demon who terrorized innocent people on earth. All the gods seemed powerless and failed to slay Mahishasura. Thus, Goddess Durga was created and after a fierce and long battle, Devi Durga beheaded the demon. The day of her victory is termed as Vijayadashami, Dussehra or Dashain. The nine days before Dussehra is Navratri or Navratra, and this is when the nine forms or incarnations of Devi – Navadurga are worshiped. These nine avatars of Durga are Shailputri, Brahmcharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata, Katyaini, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhatri. Goddess Durga, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati are the three forms of Adi Shakti, the Supreme Being, and during Navratri these three forms are also worshiped on different days. In Hindu Shastra there are different mantras which are dedicated to praise the Goddess. Devotees observe fast during these nine days and chant these mantras to dwell in the blessings of Devi Durga.

Navratri Mantra:
