Basic steps
Sit in a comfortable position. Try to quiet your mind by thinking of nothing. Observe your thoughts. Notice the voices in your head. If thoughts come to you just let them go.
Focused meditation
Focus on something intently. You can visualise an object and focus on it.
Mindfulness works
Staying in the present but focusing on emotions and sensations you feel in your body, this creates a level of meditation. Sometimes if you are a perfectionist meditation really does not seem to be the answer. Meditation is difficult to grasp for many of us. Our minds are not used to being completely quiet. Meditation for many of us is a skill you need to master and once we manage this it is easy to learn to meditate.
We need to quiet the ‘inner critic’ if we want our negative thoughts to go away. All thoughts that are negative arise from fear and it is only a calm mind that allows us to be in a non thinking state.
Meditation stops the stress response, slows your heart rate, calms your breathing, reduces cortisol levels etc.
Healthy habits
Once you learn about how to eliminate your stress, assess your situation, relieve current tension, make changes in your daily habits to make it better and you will realise that once you are in control your thoughts are no longer controlling you and making you unhappy and stressed.
