‘Nature Walk’ by Anu Singh – Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh

Art is as simple and as complicated as you make it, quite literally. So, on our visit to Anu Singh’s art exhibition at the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, Chandigarh what stood out as a solitary overwhelming experience was the fact that Anu’s paintings were inspired by nature. Of course there are many artists who paint nature, but what makes this one overwhelming is that about three of her paintings were quite ‘inspired’ by city-based artist Ravinder Sharma’s art, even to the extent symbolism (the Shivling, elephants, faces in the mountains, and the colours used), while others showcased nature in its splendid glory. “I attended many workshops by Ravinder ji and I guess, his influences rubbed off on me,” says Anu. However, Ravinder Sharma shares, “I feel the work is very original and I love textures and tones, so I really liked her artworks.”

Not just tones and textures, Anu’s paintings explore light, shadow and depth, which give her paintings a creative dimension. “Beautiful encounters with nature fill my heart with joy, which gives me the motivation to mimic these vibrant colours on the palette and paper”, adds Anu. She experiments with not just the medium, but also subjects that interest her. “I have had no formal training in art but it was my passion to paint, which I am carrying on and will continue to do so,” says the artist.
