Who wrote the famous fairy story Cinderella?This story is considered one of the greatest fairy tales. Indeed, most critics would undoubtedly accord it the accolade of being the greatest. The idea of a poor young girl being ill-treated by her step-mother, and then with fairy help, receiving beautiful clothes, complete with rich shoes which lead to a Royal marriage, dates as far back as far back as the 9th century when it appeared in China in a volume of tales of magic.

First publication in print of the famous story is credited to the French author, Charles Perrault who was born in Paris, January 12, 1628. He was a poet who also wrote memoirs and other works but his fame rests on a series of immensely popular fairy tales, issued in volume form in 1697. It contained the tales of puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood and The Sleeping Beauty as well as Cinderella. Charles Perrault died May 16, 1703.
