Equalizer 3: Overview
The Equalizer 3 is an upcoming American vigilante action film directed by Antoine Fuqua. It is the sequel to the 2018 film The Equalizer 2, and the third film in The Equalizer trilogy, which is loosely based on the TV series of the same name. The film stars Denzel Washington, reprising his role as retired U.S. Marine and former DIA officer, Robert McCall. Dakota Fanning, David Denman, Sonia Ammar, and Remo Girone also star in the film.
Washington and Fanning reunite on-screen for the first time since 2004’s Man on Fire. The film is the fifth collaboration between Washington and Fuqua, following Training Day (2001), The Equalizer (2014), The Magnificent Seven (2016), and The Equalizer 2 (2018).
The film is set to be released on September 1, 2023 by Sony Pictures Releasing.
In August 2018, Antoine Fuqua announced his plans to continue the film series. The filmmaker expressed interest in the plot taking place in an international setting.
By January 2022, a third film was officially confirmed to be in development, with Denzel Washington returning in the titular role. In June 2022, Dakota Fanning was announced to have been cast as well. By November 2022, Sonia Ben Ammar, Andrea Dodero, Remo Girone, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Daniele Perrone, Andrea Scarduzio, and Gaia Scodellaro were added to the cast.
Filming:
Principal photography began on October 10, 2022 on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Filming continued in the region until November 20, after which it moved to Naples in early December, before wrapping production by January 2023, in Rome. Fuqua once again served as director, with Washington announcing that it would be his next movie. Robert Richardson serves as director of photography on the project, after previously working with Fuqua on Emancipation.
The Equalizer 3 is set to be released on September 1, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing.

Movie Review:
It is clearly the year of action thrillers and iconic sequels in Hollywood. Celebrated movie stars are showing why they are who they are in the business for so long. Their longevity has been a highlight this year. While Tom Cruise is in no mood to stop as Ethan Hunt, Denzel Washington’s terrific screen presence makes his final run as the equalizer a thrilling watch. It is entertaining if not innovative.
Director Antoine Fuqua who has collaborated with Denzel in the previous two movies and a few others knows how to best utilise the actor’s restraint and turmoil. Even as the script sticks to familiar territory, it is the actor who captures your intrigue and attention.
Set in picturesque Italy, just as McCall feels peace at home, he is drawn back into the world of mafia lords when he discovers his friends are under their control. Still a mysterious figure in all black, he uses his super heroic combat skills to protect the people and his adopted town at all costs. The film also sees him reunite with Dakota Fanning after two decades.
Fuqua pits Denzel against the local mafia in a brutal action thriller that ups the violence and retains the underlying sense of belonging and justice. Despite maintaining the pulse of the previous two movies, you don’t feel fatigued by the action and extreme violence, as it reaches its final leg. Unnerving musical score by Marcelo Zarvos sets the mood for a taut action thriller that isn’t devoid of a heart. The central character is way more layered than before as focus even shifts to mental health, age and guilt that follows the violence. There’s also a twist in the end and a terrific opening sequence.
The Equalizer trilogy ends well. Watch this for Denzel Washington, an actor who never fails to breathe life into his characters.
