The film is set to release on 31 January 2025 Friday, coinciding with Zinta’s 50th birthday. However, it was later announced that the date was pushed between March and June 2025 as Santoshi and Khan wanted the post-production to be on point, to better reflect the era’s visuals.

Lahore 1947 is set during the partition of India in 1947 and follows the story of a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore. Upon their arrival, they are allocated a haveli (mansion) that was vacated by a Hindu family fleeing the area due to the partition. The plot thickens when the family discovers an elderly Hindu woman still residing in the haveli. This unexpected encounter leads to rising tensions and complex emotional dynamics as the characters navigate their new reality amidst the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous periods in Indian history.

The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. The production of the film involved extensive research to accurately depict the historical period of the partition. The sets were meticulously designed to recreate the streets and atmosphere of Lahore during the 1940s. The film marks the reunion of Rajkumar Santoshi with Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol, who have previously collaborated on successful projects.

The music for Lahore 1947 is composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.
