Despite a brief respite from the heat as isolated thunderstorms hit Delhi recently, animals at the Delhi Zoological Gardens hit the water to cool off as average temperatures are expected to stay elevated at one degree above normal in Delhi. Seen above is a Royal Bengal tiger wading through water in its enclosure.
But on the other hand, tiger deaths have also steadily gone up in India in recent years. In 2015 National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change officials reported 80 tiger deaths, and 78 in the previous year.
Facing extensive health dangers from diseases such as canine distemper spread by stray dogs from villages close to sanctuaries, scientific studies show 17 tigers died due to infighting and 18 were reported to have been found dead, with cause of death unknown this year, according to Wildlife Protection Society Of India records.
