Celebrated with all pomp and gaiety once in two years, the month-long festival marks the journey of Goddess Budhi Thakurani, presiding deity of the Silk City, is taken to her temporary abode at Desibehera street. During the festival, people move around the streets dressed as mythological characters.

According to the rituals, Desibehera and his wife along with several others go to the Thakurani Temple in a procession to invite the goddess at midnight on the first day.
After the procession moves through city streets, it returns to a temporary halt amidst chanting of prayers, blowing of conches and dancing by the crowds.
