I wish I had a parrot,
A parrot in a cage!
A preety green and yellow one,
A beady, bright-eyed, comic one,
A talking, singing, screeching one
A-whistling in its cage!

I wish I had a monkey,
A monkey in a cage!
A browny, long-tailed, furry one,
A clever, making-faces one,
A leaping, swinging, climbing one
A-gibbering in its cage!

I wish I had a dragon,
A dragon in a cage!
A breathing fire-and-brimstone one,
A scarlet, gold and scaly one,
A smorting, snarling, snouty one
A-roaring in its cage!
