Gurudwara Hargobind Sar Sahib, Delhi

Gurudwara Hargobind Sar Sahib – Historical Sikh Site blessed by Baba Buddha ji, Guru Hargobind Sar Sahib GT Karnal Road Delhi

Gurudwara Hargobind Sar Sahib – If we look at its history, we find that when the sixth Patshah Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was released from the fort of Gwalior. They came to Punjab by this route. Guru Sahib stopped at this place for some time, got on his horse and rested. At that time there was no Gurudwara Sahib building at this place. The tall bushes were overgrown with weeds.

This place is blessed with Guru ji’s sacred soul and drinking the purifying water of sarovar cures all the physically and mentally ill people. Baba Baghel Singh Dhaliwal, along with his 30,000 warriors, on their way to conquer Delhi in late 1770s stopped and rested at this holy place. Before proceeding towards Tees Hizari, they took care of the horses near a water body (pond) which was built by Baba Buddha ji during his stay at Gurudwara. Now, this pond has been converted to sarovar of Gurudwara.

Their divine presence has made Gurudwara Hargobind Sar a cherished place of worship and reflection.

Furthermore, Gurudwara Hargobind Sar bears witness to a tragic event in its history. In November 1984, during the Delhi riots, the gurdwara became the site of a brutal massacre that claimed the lives of 29 dedicated sewadaars (volunteers) whilst acting in the line of duty, in the seva of Gurudwara and Guru Granth Sahib Ji. We remember their sacrifice with utmost reverence and ensure that their legacy lives on, inspiring us to promote love, peace, and harmony.

Today the sewadaars of Gurudwara Hargobind Sar continue to follow the charitable example set by Sant Baba Gurmail Singh Ji and have taken their efforts beyond India’s borders. Gurudwara Hargobind Sar acts as a beacon of hope and relief for Indians of all walks of life and background without any distinction.

On this momentous occasion, we seek to honor the life and teachings of Sant Baba Gurmail Singh Ji, whose selfless service and spiritual guidance continue to uplift countless lives. The birthday celebration will include prayers, kirtan (devotional singing), an insightful discourse on Sant Ji’s teachings, and a communal langar where we embrace the spirit of equality and brotherhood.
