Switzerland Guinness World Records: Fastest 0-100 km/h acceleration – electric car

Dübendorf, Switzerland – June 28, 2016 – The electric racecar «grimsel», developed by students of the Swiss universities ETH Zurich and Hochschule Luzern, has set a new world record for acceleration of an electric car.; the vehicle accelerated from zero to 60 in 1.513 seconds and reached 60 mph within a distance of 100 feet, thus setting the new world record for the fastest 0-100 km/h acceleration – electric car.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest parade of electric vehicles is 576 and was achieved at an event organised by Louis Palmer (Switzerland) at Berlin Tempelhof Airport, Berlin, Germany, on 23 May 2015.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the fastest speed attained by a solar-powered vehicle; it is 91.332 km/h (56.75 mph) and was achieved by Kenjiro Shinozuka (Japan), who drove Ashiya University’s Sky Ace TIGA at Shimojishima Airport, in Miyakojima, Okinawa, Japan, on 20 August 2014.

A group of engineering students in Switzerland has broken the Guinness World Records world record for the fastest ground acceleration by a battery powered vehicle.

Built by 30 students from ETH Zurich and the Lucerne University of Applied Science and Arts, the Formula Student Grimsel electric racing vehicle accelerated from stationary to 100 kilometres per hour in 1.513 seconds, covering less than 30 metres of the Dubendorf Airfield near Zurich, Switzerland.

The students who built «grimsel» are actually part of the Academic Motorsports Racing Zurich team (AMZ Racing) that competes in the annual Formula Student competition (also called Formula SAE).

The Grimsel weighs just 168 grams, and has a carbon fibre chassis. It has four, specially constructed wheel hub motors that give four-wheel drive capabilities to it and generate 200HP power and 1700Nm Torque.

The car is also equipped with a sophisticated traction control system to harness and maneuver the performance output from each wheel, thereby allowing acceleration to be increased considerably.
