Guinness World Records: Longest abdominal plank

Beijing, China – May 17, 2016 – Mao Weidong, a 45-year-old Beijing SWAT team member and master planker, has set a new world record for planking, holding the abdominal position for 8 hours and 1 minute at a competition in Beijing, thus setting the new world record for the Longest abdominal plank (Longest time in an abdominal plank position).

The Guinness World Records world record for the longest time in an abdominal plank position is 4 hours 26 minutes and was achieved by Mao Weidong (China) in Beijing, China on 26 September 2014.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people planking simultaneously; it is 1,549 and was achieved by King George V School (UK) in Hong Kong, on 16 December 2011.

A Chinese policeman has set a new world record for planking, holding the abdominal position for 8 hours and 1 minute at a competition in Beijing.

Mao Wei-dong took back the record from American competitor George Hood, a former Marine officer and retired DEA agent, who won it last year.

The previous world record was set by Hood at a little more than five hours. Hood finished this year’s competition by holding his plank for more than seven hours.

Mao also set a planking world record in 2014. He credits daily strength training with helping him win.
