Australia Guinness World Records: Largest human whale

Port Stephens, Australia – July 5, 2016 – More than 900 residents and visitors gathered on Shoal Bay Beach to form the outline of a 100 metre long humpback whale; the event marked the start of the winter school holidays and Port Stephens’ annual winter Naturefest and sets the new world record for the Largest human whale.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest human animal image consisted of 3,614 participants and was achieved by the University of Pittsburgh Class of 2017 (USA) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, on 21 August 2013.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest human flower; it was made up of 2,297 participants, organised by the Rochester Lilac Festival (USA) at Highland Park in Rochester, New York, USA, on 9 May 2014.

About 800 people registered for the Shoal Bay event that had people running across the sand to complete the whale in time.

Surveyor Mark McDougall pegged out the shape on what precious little beach was available after recent storms.

The event marked the start of the winter school holidays and Port Stephens’ annual winter Naturefest. The HumanWhale event promotes whale conservation and whale-watching season.
