Largest reading lesson: ‘UAE Reads’ breaks Guinness World Records record

Dubai, UAE – May 5, 2016 — Under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior, the ‘UAE Reads’ cultural initiative, which was organised by the UAE University, managed to set a new World Record title for the UAE with the ‘Largest Reading Lesson’; a total of 2,604 women, including female staff members from the Ministry of Interior, gathered to listen to Dr. Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed, as she read a number of selected texts in the ‘world’s largest reading hour’.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest reading lesson consists of 2,226 participants and was achieved in an event organised by Fareed Lafta (Iraq) in Baghdad, Iraq, on 5 October 2015.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest vocabulary lesson consists of 1,310 participants, and was organised by Dhaval Bathia (India) in Maharashtra, India, on 15 September 2015.

A total of 2,604 women, including female staff members from the Ministry of Interior, gathered to listen to Dr. Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed, as she read a number of selected texts in the ‘world’s largest reading hour’.

This falls in line with the UAE’s ‘Year of Reading 2016’ initiative launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The event was attended by Dr. Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan.
