Largest Sponge Cake

London, United Kingdom – September 13, 2017 – Steven Oxford, from Alweston, near Sherborne, Dorset, has created a giant Victoria sponge cake just under 5ft (1.5m) wide and 8.5 inches (21cm) in height, which sets the new world record for the Largest Sponge Cake.

Steven Oxford of Oxfords Bakery baked the massive cake for his youngest son Samuel’s birthday and revealed the massive jam and butter cream-filled creation at Sturminster Newton’s annual cheese festival.

The Guinness World Records world record for the largest truffle cake is 1,970 kg (4,343 lb), created by Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust, The Cake House and Dharmanath Eknath Gaikwad (all India) at Pune, India on 23 August 2017.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest dirt cake; it weighs 1,078 kg (2,376 lb 9.33 oz) and was made by Bangalore Baking Buddies (India) at The Park, Bangalore, Karnataka, India, on 31 July 2016.

He revealed the jam and butter cream-filled creation at Sturminster Newton’s annual cheese festival, BBC reports.

Comprising of 700 eggs, 50kg (110lbs) of butter, 35kg (77lbs) of jam, 68kg (150lbs) of flour and 59kg (130lbs) of sugar, it was made in a tin created by a local engineering firm.

He presented the sweet treat to his son Samuel, who was celebrating his third birthday, at the cheese festival. “I said to him, ‘how would you like me to make you the world’s biggest cake for your birthday?’ and of course he said ‘yes'”.

“I made it by myself with a few helpers from a bakery equipment manufacturer called ‘Brook Food Processing’ We made it using large industrial cake mixers and a fork lift truck to transport it to the oven!” said Mr Oxford to NDTV.
